The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most universally recognizable sites in all the world. In 1990, the instability of the tower made it necessary to close it to visitors, but fortunately, now, thanks to modern engineering, the tower and its 294 stairs are once again open for climbing. The tower is only one component of the beautiful Piazza dei Miracoli, that also includes two other beautiful examples of Pisan Romanesque architecture in the city: The Duomo (Cathedral), the largest Romanesque church in Tuscany, The Baptistery, and if you have time, visit Pisa’s other leaning tower at the Church of San Michele degli Scalzi, is worth a look too.
